The Beginning

Hello friends!

Not too long ago I met with a friend who had recently started a new job and wanted me to help her put together a few work-appropriate outfits. When I got to her house and we got to work, I was surprised at how many unique outfits we were able to create with her existing pieces and it got me thinking...

I have A LOT of clothes. Way more than she does. I could probably put together many many nice outfits throughout the year but I find myself wearing the same outfits over and over. And with my slight Pinterest addiction, I'm constantly finding new outfits and going shopping for new pieces. I know I need to stop and be grateful for what I've already got! Not only do I not have the money for new items... I don't need them!

So the Head to Toe Challenge was born - could I go one full year without repeating any outfits?

Step 1: Inventory My Clothes

I made a list of all the items I own... and it was eye opening. I have in my closet/dresser:

- 24 bottoms (pants, capris, shorts, skirts, etc.)
- 7 dresses
- A whopping 63 tops, not including tank tops that I wear under everything
- 17 pieces that go over tops (blazers, cardigans, etc.)
- 23 pairs of shoes
- and a number of accessories that I did not inventory: belts, jewelry, tights, etc.

Holy cow! All these items, lurking in my tiny apartment, just waiting to be worn?

Step 2: Come Up With Outfits

I started to systematically (because I love Excel, and I'm a nerd) pair together items...

E.g., black pants/skirt + white blouse + gray blazer; black pants/skirt + white blouse + black cardigan...

I have come up with 31 business formal outfits and  (cringe) 778 business casual outfits. I was so exhausted after that, that I didn't even try to create casual outfits but I don't think I'll have too many problems with those.

809 outfits I can wear to work? Are you joking? That's enough to last 3 full years, if I went to work every single weekday of the year. Um yea, I should have no problem with this challenge.

Step 3: One Step Further

I was so on fire after finished my extensive outfit list that I went and counted all my nail polishes...I have 31. I thought I had more and that I could wear a new colour every week for each of the 52 weeks of the year, but it looks like I'm a bit short. But not bad! I'll wear a new colour every week until I run out and then I'll just have to purchase some more, or *gasp* rewear a few of my favourites ;)

Anyways, that's the plan for the next little while. My new job starts tomorrow and I'm really excited! Look forward to my posts this week :)
